My name is Mukamuganga Ernestine, an orphan and the eldest in a family of seven. Life has never been easy for us. I am neither educated nor employed, yet my siblings depend on me for everything.
When I was 20 years old, I gave birth to my son, Iranzi Mugisha Fred, who was born with a physical disability. By the age of ten, he could neither stand nor move on his own. We lived in Nyamasheke District, deep in rural western Rwanda, where access to advanced medical care was difficult due to financial challenges.
I took him to Bushenge Hospital, where they provided a wheelchair. It helped for a while, but it was not a lasting solution. For three long years, my child remained in that wheelchair. I felt helpless—we simply could not afford the care he needed.
One day, a friend told me about Jethro House Rwanda, an organization that supports vulnerable children with disabilities. I reached out to them, and they changed our lives completely. They paid for all my son’s surgery, physiotherapy, and special school expenses.
After months of treatment and hard work, Fred began to walk—first with crutches, and now completely on his own.
Today, Fred moves freely, attends a special school for children with disabilities, and is performing very well in 3rd grade. His confidence has grown tremendously, and he interacts joyfully with others.
I thank God and Jethro House Rwanda for restoring my son’s mobility and hope. They gave my family a new beginning—and a new life.
